Memories to Forget
I rarely recall all the words
To a song or a poem.
Anything above a few stanzas disappears
To a place I imagine I
Store leisurely ideas for a later
Date to rediscover. I have techniques
To help when I imagine I
Must have a memorized line ready
For use. It often bothered me
To slowly learn that had I
A voice to verse, I might
Always need the words and notes
Before me. Now that I’m older,
I try understanding memory in reverse.
The more I write, the less
I have to remember. The best
Answers I discover while writing surprise
Me. I write memories to forget.
