Upcoming Projects:
Adapt a novella set in Coos Bay and Portland into a short film screenplay. It is now in screenplay format. I’m collaborating with a friend. We’re finalizing some story elements. The plot is pretty solid (TBD)—update - (late 2026). I have yet to revisit this story. I’ll work on it in 2025.
Three adventure short stories set in the Coos River Valley of Oregon (TBD); Two of the stories are in revision. I have one more to write. I’ve written them to connect around a central theme. These stories are about a first-generation, western Oregon family, originally, from a Swedish-speaking area from the coast of Western Finland. Update - I plan to expand one of my short stories to a novel. I have the story and plot finished. Now, I need to write the dialogue. I am considering expanding the other two short stories to novel length too. ,
Update 2.11.25 - Rough Draft Complete. My goal is to launch this book in October of this year. Update 1.14.25 - I have expanded one of my short stories to at least novella length. It is a historical fiction with some fantasy elements for a YA and older audience. It is set in the Oregon Coast. It’s a love story. The rough draft is in Act 3. I am using Scrivener and Google Docs. I’ve used Ingram Spark for years for self-publishing, but it has changed. I have also used KDP. I plan to use only KDP moving forward. I know some writers are having success with Canva for book covers. I used it for the internal, written files for Only You Can Say instead of Adobe Indesign, but InDesign has a nicer look IMO, but it’s hard to beat the ease of use for Canva. I have used Adobe Illustrator (with Sarah) for past covers, but I don’t enjoy making book covers anymore. I want to plot and write. I may source those covers in the future unless I can find an easy way to create them (at a low cost) in Canva.
Until It’s Gone: New and Selected Poems. 76 Poems (27 New Poems. The selected poems have been revised slightly). - Currently in Revision for release in late (2024). I am making edits to the final (hopefully) test copy. Update (see below - 2025) Update 1.14.25 - Ready to go, may release in February or March this year. I plan to take a long break from publishing poetry after this project. I’ve covered most of the ground I wished to cover. I’m enjoying writing novellas/novels now. It was always the plan to publish my poetry first. That will be my focus for the next few years. I’ll keep writing poems, but it feels like it could be five to ten years or longer before I publish again.
Update 2.11.25 - Finished. On Sale Now through Amazon and all the other places Ingram Spark distributes books. My latest collection, Only You Can Say: New and Selected Poems covers all I needed to say in my 40’s. I’m incredibly pleased with how it turned out. I’ve continued to plug away at writing poems. Though I’ll never reach the level of proficiency and excellence I see in some of my favorite poets, I do believe I contributed something important and meaningful to the space. If I can write for another 40 or 50 years, I might even write the one perfect poem that always seems to allude me. Or did I write it already? And, wow, don’t the losses keep piling up as we get older? Each year we keep losing great people too soon. I live with words, and still, in the face of the loss of others, I never know what to say in the moment. All too often, my words fall through me and get heavier with sadness. I expect many people to feel the same way as they age. What are light words in the face of heavy suffering and loss? That’s why we write, I guess.
Release some MP3 Audio recordings of new poems from my upcoming collection (2025):
“Until It’s Gone: New and Selected Poems” (likely late 2024). I’ll link some in the Draft & Published Poems section later in the year. Update: New title - Only You Can Say: New and Selected Poems (early 2025). Completed. 92 poems. 47 of the poems are new. I need to finish the book cover. I’ve written poems about death, loss, and new beginnings. I needed to process the sad and strange Covid era and the loss of some family members. I believe it is my best work.
Post remaining poems from Coos River Reverberations and Amble. It will take some work; I may release some over the summer in random batches. Conversely, poems from Idling Intuitions and Mast Years are more poem starters (though I worked hard on them, and they are a solid finished product, they are experimental and unfinished ideas for me), so if someone wants to read those, it’s best to buy those particular books to read those poems. I’m not as excited about them floating around the internet. My favorite ones will be published in my forthcoming collection: Until It’s Gone. Only You Can Say: New and Selected Poems.
